Medicine take back options are the best way to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription and non-prescription medication.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department houses a medication drop-off bin in the lobby of Police Headquarters. The secured bin is accessible to the general public Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Before disposing of prescription medication, be sure to remove all personal information on pill bottle labels and medicine packaging. All medication dropped off at the department will be disposed of per regulations.

Please Note: Some things may be prohibited from disposal such as needles/sharps, glass or inhalers.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) periodically hosts National Prescription Drug Take Back events. During these events, temporary drug collection sites are set up in communities nationwide for safe disposal of prescription drugs. To learn more, visit the DEA's Drug Disposal website.
