Advanced Placement Government Cohort 2023
We are excited to host Youth in Government Day Thursday, May 11 in Cape Girardeau! The Optimist Club's Tom Meyer started the program in 1984 and we're proud to have Optimist Charlie Herbst as part of the Cape Girardeau Public Schools program for 2023!
AGENDA
8 a.m. - City Hall 44 North Lorimier
Refreshments provided, Mayor Stacy Kinder and County Commissioner Charlie Herbst welcome students and present local government.
9:30 a.m. to Noon - Assigned Department Tours and Events
Students can rank their choices at registration and we will make every effort to connect students to the public service or potential career areas that interest them most. Potential department tours include City Hall, Fire, Parks & Recreation, Police, Public Works,and our Airport.
12:15 p.m. - Luncheon at Scout Hall
Students can share experiences, and give input on future city plans. Program should conclude by 2 p.m.
Transportation is not available, students will drive their own vehicles or arrange their own rideshares as needed. The
permission form is required in addition to registration.
