School Resource Officers (SROs) are sworn law enforcement officers who are responsible for providing security and crime prevention services in the school environment.
Five officers are assigned to the Cape Girardeau Public School District and they provide a forum through which students, parents, faculty, and law enforcement can become better acquainted. As as result, there is mutual respect for one another. These officers are involved in activities such as conducting classroom presentations, coordination of group discussions with students in the area of mutual concern, patrolling school premises and surrounding areas to reduce loitering and prevent criminal activity as well as stimulate student involvement in crime prevention programs.
Their services are paid for by both the City of Cape Girardeau as well as the Cape Girardeau Public School District.
