The following individuals have each served as the Commander of the Major Case Squad during its existence. Each emphasizes that the Squad has been a team effort and that the credit for solving the cases belongs to each member of the team, past and present.
A brief synopsis of their service to the Major Case Squad follows.
Lt. John Brown was the first Commander of the Major Case Squad. He served as Commander from the formation of the Squad in 1983 until January of 1991 when he switched to the position of Deputy Squad Commander. At the time he led the Squad he was the Lieutenant in charge of Criminal Investigations at the Cape Girardeau Police Department. He retired from the Department in December of 2000 and worked as an officer with the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Public Safety until his retirement in 2013.
Sheriff John Jordan served as the second Commander of the Major Case Squad, serving in that position from January of 1991 until he resigned to run for Sheriff in 1994. At the time he served as Commander he was the Lieutenant in charge of Criminal Investigations at the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office. As Sheriff of Cape Girardeau County, he served on the Board of Directors of the Major Case Squad until he resigned from the Sheriff's Office in 2018 to accept a federal marshal post.
Carson Kelly served as the third Commander of the Major Case Squad, serving in that capacity from September 1994 until his resignation in February 2000. At the time he served as Commander he was the Assistant Director of Public Safety at Southeast Missouri State University. He has since retired from the University.
Captain David James served as the fourth Commander of the Major Case Squad, serving in that capacity from February 2000 until May 2011. He served as Deputy Commander from 2011 up until his retirement from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office in 2021.
Assistant Chief Mark Majoros served as the fifth Commander of the Major Case Squad. He was appointed as Commander in May 2011 and served in the capacity until his retirement from the Cape Girardeau Police Department in 2019.
Lieutenant Don Perry is the current Commander of the Major Case Squad. He was appointed to the position in 2019 after the retirement of Assistant Chief Mark Majoros. Lieutenant Perry is currently the officer in charge of the Investigations Unit at the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
