All municipal departments gather once per year at the holidays to celebrate the people who keep Cape running every day. We are very proud of our whole team of police, fire, public works, parks, recreation, airport, administrative, and development workers!

Gratitude to our Long-Term Employees!
At the luncheon, we also celebrated newly vested employees, and many other career millstones. Among them, five very special long-term employees marking 25-45 years of service in 2024!
  • Ryan Walther - Parks & Rec. Department Maintenance Supervisor - Serving Since 1999
    Ryan started his career with our department out of high school and has worked at all three of our Outdoor Sports Complexes including Arena Park Sports Complex, Capaha Field and Shawnee Park Sports Complex. Ryan is a dedicated employee who has been part of the growth of our sports complex divisions, works great with our tournament providers and is very skilled at all aspects of ballfield maintenance.
  • Paul Zajicek - Police Department Corporal - Serving Since 1999
    Corporal Zajicek is currently assigned to the Patrol Division and serves as the Corporal to D Platoon. He often assists our Communications Unit when they are short-staffed and is an all-around team player. We are fortunate to have him among our ranks.
  • Don Perry - Police Department Lieutenant - Serving Since 1989
    As the Chief of Detectives, Lieutenant Perry overseas the Detective Division that specializes in various criminal investigations, such as those involving juveniles, sex offenses, and financial crimes. The Division also includes the Scientific Investigations Unit (SIU). He is also the current Commander of the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad. Lieutenant Perry expects expertise and professionalism of his staff, and they rise to his expectations daily under his leadership.
  • Kendra Boos - Finance Department - Senior Accountant - Serving Since 1984
    Dedicated and exemplary service to the City of Cape Girardeau for the past 40 years for Kendra. Kendra’s daily focus centers around budgetary spending and the skills required to accurately record and track our spending. She has been an active participant in EVERY computer system upgrade/implementation since then
  • Mary Thompson - Finance Department - Senior Accountant - Serving Since 1979
    45 years - an amazing accomplishment! She depicts a willingness to be helpful, solve problems and is a key participant in keeping the Finance Department on track. They strive to get the job done no matter how difficult. Mary’s daily focus centers around receipts and the skills required to accurately record and track our tax receipts!
