Proposed Recreational Marijuana Sales Tax
Proposed: 3% sales tax on recreational marijuana
Vote: April 4, 2023
Missouri voters passed Amendment 3 to legalize recreational marijuana,
and to give voters the option to tax the sales at 3%. Currently Cape
Girardeau County and other cities are planning on to put the tax on the
April ballot.
- Only recreational marijuana shoppers would pay the tax
- Additional revenue is estimated to start at
$153,660/year. The money will be used for priorities set by the
community and City Council in the General Fund supporting police, fire,
streets, parks, and other services. Up to 25% would be earmarked each
year for mental health and drug treatment and prevention, coordinated by
the Police Department.
