We are excited that we now have the ability engage and stay connected with our citizens as well as enhance resident services by implementing innovative solutions to communicate more efficiently.”
The city will officially launch the new text messaging system to the public this Spring. Residents may receive a text message from 91896 from City of Cape Girardeau, Mo. initiating the service. You can choose to opt-out at any time by texting STOP.
Anyone can opt-in by texting the keyword “CAPE” to the number 91896. After sending the initial keyword, you will be asked to reply “YES” to confirm opt-in. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this new service and stay up to date on everything happening in Cape Girardeau.
We’re excited about this new way of communicating with residents and look forward to sharing important city notifications. Stay Connected, Stay Informed and Ahead!
Once fully developed, a two-way citizen-city communication platform will be available 24/7. Citizens will have the option to skip a phone call or website and use their mobile phone to find information, report issues, and receive alerts and more – all via text messaging, using keywords such as street, litter, alley, bill pay, etc.
“We believe this is one avenue the city can utilize to better serve our citizens,” said Haskin. “A lot of people have smartphones, and those who do text regularly.”
You can get information or see a response from the City with little effort and at no cost or app to download. Citizens who need to relay information to the City, will be able to simply text one or two words to begin, and receive an immediate response 24/7.
TextMyGov also gives citizens an option to receive notifications from the City, such as emergency information, road closures, water outages and more. Residents will be able to opt-in to receive city-wide notifications or for a specific area of town.
