LEADERSHIP SPOTLIGHT: Stan Polivick, Public Works Director

Stanley Polivick is a 1974 graduate of Sikeston High School and 1980 graduate of Mississippi State University. With a BS in Civil Engineering, he began his engineering career in New Orleans, Louisiana designing offshore oil drilling platforms. In 1984 Stan went to work for the City of Slidell, Louisiana in the Engineering Department as an inspector. This was the unwitting start of a long career in Public Works. He was promoted as Slidell’s City Engineer 1986. In 1998 Stan went to work as City Engineer for Picayune, Mississippi and then in late 1999 went to work in Biloxi, Miss. as City Engineer. In early 2000, Stan returned to work in Slidell as City Engineer and worked there seven more years. Stan worked for about 18 months with a bio-diesel production facility in Lilbourn, Mo. before a brief service with Neel-Schaffer Engineers in Bay St. Louis, Ms. That work was coordinating projects for Hurricane Katrina recovery projects along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Family concerns prompted a return to Sikeston in the fall of 2008. Stan began work with the City of Cape Girardeau Public Works Department in October 2008 as the new Stormwater Coordinator. In this role Stan developed and coordinated the implementation of the City’s MS4 Program. He also served as the local sponsor contact with the Corps of Engineers for the extensive 15-year, $22 million Floodwall Rehabilitation Program. He was also coordinator for all the projects in the PRS 1 stormwater program. In 2014 Stan was promoted to Traffic Operations Engineer. Then in 2015 Stan was promoted to Assistant Public Works Director. Throughout most of his career Stan has worked extensively with sewer, stormwater, and water utilities. In particular he began a long association with sewer rehabilitation work in 1988 when he developed the first sewer Inflow & Infiltration Reduction Program in Slidell. Stan also coordinated their sewer system cleaning and recovery work following Hurricane Katrina. For Cape Girardeau in 2010, he began development of an I&I Program for the City sewer system. That 5-year program was accepted by the State and completed in 2016. Stan continues to oversee the I&I Program for Cape and he was instrumental in the development of the stormwater program for the PRS 2 tax renewal in 2018. In August 2018 Stan was promoted to Public Works Director. He continues in that position leading the department in the daily operations and maintenance, assisting in coordination with new developments, and assisting with capital project coordination.
