We wish you a safe and happy Halloween on Oct. 31. As a reminder, the City does not regulate your holiday. That means you can trick or treat until your heart's content. There are no established start or end times. Please use safe judgement on when and where to trick-or-treat.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department has shared a few safety tips for Halloween.

- Adults should escort young children at all times as they trick-or-treat.
- Adult escorts should carry flashlights.
- Children should stay in well-lit areas and not take short cuts through front yards, backyards or alleyways.
- Children should use sidewalks when possible and refrain from walking on the street.
- When a child must cross the street, The should look both ways and use cross walks or intersections.
- All treats should be examined prior to children consuming them.
- Children should never enter anyone's home for any reason.
- Children should walk, not run, during their trick-or-treat activities.
- All costumes should be made of light-colored, fireproof material.
- Children should wear proper fitting, comfortable costumes and shoes.
- Props such as toy guns or swords should be made of pliable, soft materials.
- Masks should not be worn if they impair vision or hearing.
