The
Cape Girardeau Fire Department received a Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (
SAFER) Grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
The grant allows the Department to hire one more firefighter per shift (three new hires) and covers a large portion of the firefighters' salary and benefits over the next three years.
The grant adds much-needed staffing for firefighter safety, and could have positive effects on lower insurance rates in our community.
