Southeast Missouri State University has been recognized among the top 100 best regional universities in the Midwest according to the 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.
Southeast offers more than 145 undergraduate majors, 100 minors and more than 75 graduate programs.
The River Campus, featuring the Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance, is Missouri’s only campus dedicated to art, dance music and theatre.
“An American Hero,” a Southeast original production, was honored with the New York Musical Festival’s (NYMF) Best of Festival Production Award in July 2018. The powerful, jazz-inspired musical, which tells the story of an Irish immigrant during World War II, was performed as part of the 15th season of the NYMF in New York City.
Southeast’s Bachelor of Science in cybersecurity is one of only four programs nationally to receive accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc., (ABET) under its new program-specific criteria for cybersecurity.
The National Security Agency (NSA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have named Southeast Missouri State as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, making it one of just 250 nationally to hold this designation.
Southeast’s Cyber Defense Team was named the Missouri state champion in spring 2019 for the seventh consecutive year after winning the 2019 Missouri Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC).
Southeast’s College of Education, Health and Human Studies is an APPLE Distinguished School.
Southeast competes in NCAA Division I, Ohio Valley Conference athletics. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, and track (indoor/outdoor). Women's sports include basketball, cross country, gymnastics, soccer, softball, tennis, track (indoor/outdoor), and volleyball.
Southeast Missouri State University has been awarded the 2019 Military Friendly® Schools Silver Designation, ranking among the 2019-2020 list of “Better for Veterans” institutions identified across the country.
Southeast Missouri State University’s MBA Program has been ranked among the nation’s outstanding business schools by The Princeton Review’s 2019 Best Business School rankings.
Southeast Online’s Flipped Student Service Model, an innovative approach to providing student support services using technology, just-in-time messaging, customer service and community-building, has been recognized by the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) with a 2018 Effective Practice Award.
Southeast Missouri State University has been recognized by Quality Matters (QM) with a 2018 QM Making a Difference for Students Award in the Outstanding Impact by an Institution category for implementing Quality Assurance in its online programs, establishing faculty training and creating an approach for collaborative course design.
Southeast opened a new International Village in January 2019 providing a venue dedicated to serving international students and enhancing the University’s diverse and globally-oriented campus.
The Arrow, Southeast’s student newspaper and one of the longest-standing student-run newspapers in the country since 1911, won two first-place and a third place 2018 College Media Association Pinnacle Awards. The Arrow also was recognized as a finalist for the annual ACP Pacemaker Award. Additionally, the Arrow was honored with seven awards in total at the Associated College Press (ACP) /College Media Association (CMA) Fall National College Media Convention.
A team of Southeast business students finished fifth out of 16 qualifying finalists at the Championship Round of the 2019 Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) Worldwide Case Competition.
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program at Southeast Missouri State University’s Economic and Business Engagement Center was recently honored with the “Center Most Innovative Award” from the University of Missouri Extension Business Development Program (BDP).
The Southeast Missouri State University Autism Center for Diagnosis and Treatment was presented with a Missouri Community Action Network (CAN) Award in 2018 for its outstanding community service and outreach in providing screenings and diagnostic evaluations for children suspected of having Autism and other developmental delays in the Delta region. The Southeast Missouri State University Autism Center for Diagnosis and Treatment also recently expanded its outreach to residents in the Missouri Bootheel providing its services at Southeast’s Sikeston Regional Campus.
Southeast’s Debate Team was crowned the 2018 national champion for the third consecutive year.
