Policing is one of the most rewarding careers you can pursue. Police officers are pillars of the community, role models, life-savers, and relentless in the pursuit of justice. The Cape Girardeau Police Department has a storied history and our officers are highly trained.
The Department accepts applications on a year-round basis.
Eligibility Requirements for Police Officers:
- 21 years of age or older
- No felony convictions
- Valid driver's license
- High School diploma/GED
- Applicants do not need to be POST certified to apply, however will need to be POST certified on the date of hire
All police officer applicants will be required to pass a physical fitness test consisting of:
- Push a car 30 feet
- Pull a simulated body 60 feet
- Climb a 6-foot wall or fence
Upon successful completion of the physical test, applicants will be invited for an interview. The chosen applicant will be required to undergo an extensive background investigation, drug screen, physical and psychological evaluations.
* The P.O.S.T. certification stipend is to be paid over a three-year period. The total compensation offered to full-time employees include a healthy benefit package providing health, dental, and life insurance, retirement pension plan, 12 paid holidays, paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, and more.
