The Parks & Recreation Explorer’s Program is a career education program for all students ages 14-21. This program will be centered on the field of parks & recreation and led by professionals. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of the field, and receive hands on experience by working with the City of Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation Department’s leagues, events, facilities and more! Exploring is all about helping youth in making a more informed decision about future careers and to determine if a career is the right one for them. Typically, youth will either: 1) get involved, learn about a career, and decide to pursue it; Or 2) learn enough about the career to determine it’s not the right fit for them. It’s better to learn as a youth that a career is not for you, then after spending lots of money on an education only to THEN learn you don’t like the career!

The program is led by Exploring leaders who volunteer their time to provide real-world career experiences for youth and young adults. Exploring is not about lectures and slide shows - it’s about gaining practical experience in a career field. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow and develop.

The cost to participate is $50 per person and includes a shirt and all other supplies. This program is sponsored by the City of Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation Department, Parks & Recreation Foundation and Boy Scouts of America .
